Anti-Graffiti Coatings FAQ

This FAQ is about our professional line of anti-graffiti coatings found on Please see the article "Premium Project Sealers" for more information about our homeowner line of products.

Q: What do we do if VandlGuard gets tagged before it is fully cured?

A: VandlGuard will start to provide protection as soon as it dries. However, if the surface is tagged within 5 days of application in a hot and dry climate or 7 days in a cold and wet climate, the coating will need to be used as a sacrificial coating. This means you will need to use VandlClean Super and a power washer to remove the graffiti as well as the coating. Then the VandlGuard product will need to be reapplied.

This applies to all of our anti-graffiti coatings excluding VandlGuard IsoFree. If the surface is tagged within 3 days (no matter the climate) after being coated with VandlGuard IsoFree, then the coating will need to be used as a sacrificial coating and reapplied.

Q: If I apply VandlGuard and later want to change the color of my building what do I need to do?

Nothing! VandlGuard painted over and treated as a paint primer.

Q: How long do I need to wait after pouring concrete before I can apply VandlGuard Original?

A: You will need to wait 14 days after pouring concrete before you can apply VandlGuard Original. Remember - one coat of Micro-Seal MUST be applied to an unpainted concrete surface before applying VandlGuard Original. Micro-Seal can be applied 3-5 days after pouring the concrete.

Q: Why is it mandatory to apply one coat of Micro-Seal Silane/Siloxane water repellent first on unpainted or unsealed surfaces before applying any VandlGuard product?

Applying Micro-Seal is required to provide a barrier and prevent the surface from absorbing the anti-graffiti coating. VandlGuard products work by creating a washable barrier between the surface and graffiti, preventing the graffiti from permanently staining the surface. RainGuardPro does offer 2-in-1 sealer options for unpainted or unsealed surfaces such as Blok-Lok with Graffiti Control and Micro-Seal with Graffiti Control

Q: How do I clean graffiti off my surface after it has been treated with an anti-graffiti coating?

All VandlGuard products including Blok-Lok with Graffiti Control and Micro-Seal with Graffiti Control need to be cleaned with VandlClean Super graffiti cleaner. Any other coating will damage and/or remove the coating and possibly damage the surface underneath. Please watch this video to see how VandlClean Super works.

The exception is VandlGuard IsoFree® Aliphatic Urethane 2K, and while we recommend VandlClean Super because it is an eco-friendly cleaning option, you can also use acetone or lacquer thinner without damaging the coating.

Q: What is the difference between VandlGuardFive and VandlGuardTen with VandlGuard Original Non-Sacrificial?

VandlGuardFive and VandlGuardTen are older formulas that need the layer of VandlGuard Finish Coat to cross-link and harden properly. VandlGuard Original is a newer and better formula where the crosslinking and hardening of the coating are built into one product.

Q: What is the best anti-graffiti coating to use for a mural?

The best options are VandlGuard Single-Part Urethane or VandlGuard IsoFree® Aliphatic Urethane 2K. These coatings provide UV protection to keep mural colors bright and vibrant as well as create a thick barrier between the mural and any graffiti. Each of these coatings is extremely durable and withstand multiple frequent cleanings if necessary.

Q: What is the best anti-graffiti coating for metal, vinyl, acrylic or other plastic surfaces?

A: VandlGuard IsoFree is the best solution for mixed media murals and/or plastic surfaces. It is the only graffiti coating we offer that will be able to properly adhere to such smooth surfaces.

Q: What is IsoFree ®?

IsoFree technology means the coating has zero VOC's, zero odor, and zero isocyanates. These coatings do not gas out any toxic fumes over time and are typically used in public spaces such as amusement parks, airports, schools, bars, restaurants, and more. We offer 3 products with IsoFree Technology including:

Q: How long do I need to wait after applying Micro-Seal to apply the anti-graffiti coating?

A: Any of our anti-graffiti coatings can be applied to the surface once Micro-Seal has been allowed to dry for approximately 2-3 hours.
